What is a lesson plan?

For a teacher, the lesson plan is the guide he/she has for teaching; it is the bases for the whole class. It can be seen as a simple sheet of paper, but it allows the teacher to have a controlled class. It has to be well planed and organized to be effective.

Points to consider when planning a lesson:

Main topic
Students’ interests
Objectives
Vocabulary
Directions
Details in activities
Order in the class
Review what students have done
Challenging activities for the students
Students’ Learning Styles
Previous knowledge
Number of students
Space for running the activities
Classroom environment

It seems like teachers must take into account a lot of details for creating just a lesson plan, but it is necessary because in that way, the students are going to learn more and better.

Tips to lesson plannning:

Have a template
Have the lesson plan to hand
Tick the activity that worked well
Make comments on the activities that worked/ did not worked
Have extra activities ready
Prepare the lesson plan with anticipation

One important point when lesson planning is to set the objectives since they are the ones which lead the whole class. The class must be planned according to the objectives for the lesson. To construct the objectives, there are four key concepts:

  • Audience
  • Behavior
  • Condition
  • Degree
